Sales Boosting Copywriter
Did you just say why a Copywriter? Perfect!
A professional copywriter is that guy of the business who just by using written words can increase your sales and fill your pockets.
I know, you’re asking “HOW?”
Be patient, I have a full list for you.
By the end, you’ll be convinced to hire a copywriter, if you don’t have one.
A good copywriter is an expert, specifically trained and can absolutely write any sales-boosting content –
Product content
Website content
Blog content
Landing page
Email sales
Article
Case study
Sales letter
Press Release
And the list is long to end.
So an all in one guy?
Yeah!
Now, The question is what does a copywriter do.
1. When you start a business, its always about profit, not charity.
And to increase your profit it needs to be sales-worthy.
And to be sales-worthy it needs to be customer targeted.
Now, If you’re asking ‘HOW’
That’s a secret.
But,
If you’re asking ‘WHO’
Better Question: A copywriter.
Why customer targeted?
Because, if you’re advertising your product with a generalized content it will barely have an impact.
RESULTS? Boom, sales won’t grow!
But, if you hire a copywriter the contents will be more customer targeted.
How? You’ll know.
Patience, breathe.!
2. So, now if you’re thinking…
Good, next time I’ll make my contents customer targeted and save some bucks for myself.
I wish you luck.
Because what comes next is hooking and attracting readers(potential clients).
And no one can beat a copywriter when it comes to persuading a reader through written content.
3. Now, Imagine having a stress free business when your advertising content is handled by an EXPERT.
AFTER-EFFECTs?
Profit goes up,
Customer increases,
Save some time for yourself and your family.
And yes, fewer headaches worrying about profit and advertisement.
Oh, and money? Heavy pocket.!
4. Making mouth-watering contents for readers needs a great deal of RESEARCH.
And copywriters are extremely gritty when it comes to research.
A researched copy is what you need to boost your sales.
And to get it, your collaboration is very important.
So, now you know:
How to get CUSTOMER TARGETED contents.
Works?
“Customers’ buy things not because they NEED it, it’s because they WANT it.”
And this “WANT” effect is created by copywriters.
I've never hired copywriters myself, but I always like to ask my clients why they hire me to give me an idea of what people want from and are looking for in a copywriter. Mostly, it's because
1. They're running a business. They're busy doing other things and really don't have the time to do their own writing. So they outsource it.
2. They don't like writing and/or they're no good at it. Some people have trouble tooting their own horn and feel like that's exactly what they're doing when writing copy.
3. Copywriting is a science. And there's a huge psychological aspect to it. While my clients know their business, what they offer, and who they serve inside and out, they don't necessarily know what makes good copy, what inspires people to trust and be willing to pay them. As a copywriter, that's my area of expertise. So they hire me for effective copy.
4. They're too close to what they do and are struggling to present it to a wider audience. Sometimes they're so close, they have trouble seeing the value of what they do. Sometimes another perspective (in the case of my clients, mine) makes all the difference.
5. They're stuck. They have something but they don't love it. Or they came upon an obstacle and don't know how to get around it. Or they know what they want to say, they just don't know how to say it. I help them bounce around ideas, repeat their ideas back to them, and play a little word Tetris to get all the pieces where they need to be.
Copywriters are basically sales people who sell using words. These are some of the reasons why one would hire them.
- Businesses/ Clients hire copywriters mainly because they’re experts at selling.
- Clients understand the advantage of employing an experienced Copywriter because they are masters of persuasive writing. Copywriters sift through tons of information to produce simple and compact content that is relevant and targeted (target audience).
- A majority of the companies online rely on content to attract business. This involves periodic online campaigns, email marketing and regular maintenance of content (content management - Newsletters/journals, articles).
- It is basically a very time consuming affair and only eagle-eyed copywriters can ensure that those content-heavy websites are error-free and contain quality content that help businesses grow. (If you’re an educational institution, students visiting your website may be appalled to find errors and may not opt to study there.) Meaning, it could be detrimental to your business.
- People always underestimate the power of quality content. Quality content has the ability to gain the trust of the customers and reflects positively for the brand, while the complete opposite may be true if the content is shoddy. Many companies tend to lose respect and credibility due to bad copywriting, especially publications.
- Great copy has always been at the top of any sales pitch and instrumental in driving award winning Ad campaigns. Example: Look at the history of Volkswagen advertising.
I am a copy writer and I can tell you why clients hire particular writers. Ultimately, it’s about “How well will this copywriter tell my story.” When you’re hiring a copywriter, it’s a collaborative relationship, something you work on together. Perfect web copy takes time to hone and create.
One of the advantages a copywriter has is that they can look at your web copy objectively and make suggestions. They’ll put themselves in the position of your audience and make suggestions from that perspective.
One final area is that a good copywriter knows what their strengths and weaknesses are (for example, I am happy to write content on business, finance, tech, and health, but steer well clear of lifestyle, fashion, or food) It also depends on the type of content you need - Web page copy, long-form content, thought-leadership, ideas for topics etc.
Ultimately, when a website owner and a good freelance writer collaborate together, it should be clear that the final piece is better than what either party could have completed alone.
The majority of my clients hire me for one of three reasons:
(1) They are too close to their own work and, as experts, find it too hard to "dumb down" their own content to appeal to a broad audience of non-experts.
(2) They are simply too busy to do the writing themselves, and need to spend their time focused on other aspects of their business.
(3) They aren't great writers and know this about themselves. They prefer to hire a professional to produce content, knowing that the end result will be better than anything they'd come up with themselves.
Every single business in existence needs copywriting.
Sounds crazy to you?
The only way a business will be known is through advertising and marketing.
Whether it’s a simple social media post or an actual ad.
The words written = copy.
But words must be persuasive and targeted to the audience.
And persuasion is not a bad thing like many suggest.
It’s not trickery if used in an ethical way.
In sales, your job is not to convince anybody to do anything.
Your job is to be their guide, a leader, to show them a different perspective which allows the person to make their own decisions and follow your suggestions in order for it to make sense to them.
Example -
Someone who can’t swim…
Imagine you’re on a paradise island vacation with your family and one of your loved ones can’t swim.
It’s the perfect beach day, sun is shining, sand is glowing, and the water looks like the heavenly skies above — so blue and clear you can nearly see the bottom.
You look out at the calm body of water and to the right you see a hut advertising kayaking.
You think this is perfect and make a suggestion because it’ll be a lot of fun.
But you get some resistance from your spouse…
They can’t swim and are terrified at the idea of sitting in this narrow, skinny boat with nothing but water surrounding them.
In their mind they imagine the worst.
Boat turning over, drowning and feel a sense of immediate anxiety.
So how will you make this work out to enjoy the fun?
Simple…
You suggest (now here comes the persuasion aspect)…
“I know you can’t swim and are afraid, but there’s no way anything bad can or will happen to you… Not only will I be next to you the whole time, but you’ll have a life vest on and best of all — the water is so shallow, it’s only 3 feet deep. If our 9 year old can stand in it at 4’6” tall, you’ll have no problem and it would be impossible for you to drown.”
Do you think your spouse who cannot swim would agree to kayaking then?
Would they change their mind, feel less anxiety, more comfortable now that you provided a solution to their fears?
100% they would.
Would you agree you didn’t convince them or forcefully change their mind?
This works the same with business advertising and copy.
All businesses need it.
Whether to trigger a customer to make a purchase or to create a branding fanatic over time.
Copywriting and salesmanship is in everything.
