Rates for Content Writing

 Rates for Content Writing

Content’s value is growing rapidly, and every business needs fresh content everyday.

Unfortunately there is no standard rate in India for a writing job. You have to set a suitable price for your work. I see that writers have suggested a “per-hour” rate, but it is difficult to cut such deals if you have just started your career as a freelancer. Most of the companies still pay on the “word count” basis.

The time and effort than went into the research, the first draft, and all the drafts between the first and the final is not much of a concern. (Bitter truth)

1 rupee per word is a very decent pay, you can charge higher once you have made your mark. If you are aware of SEO techniques, and you are offering SEO optimized content, you might be in an advantage.

Look at it this way, what value is your content adding to your employer/client?

Let’s say that a blog you wrote brought high traffic to the client’s web page, you have a leverage to charge more. Similarly, if your content is generating revenue, your client will be happy to pay you without hesitation.

To conclude, let your work decide the worth, not the world. :)

Hi! I'm a freelancer too, and I generally write for websites. However, I'm a web consultant actually so my content writing is included in my web design and SEO fees. But here's what I know:

·         Creating content for Websites aka Blogging usually is at a flat rate of ₹1 (one rupee) per word, where posts can be anywhere between 500–1000 words.

·         Creating content for websites aka page content, SEO content, etc. is again ₹1 per word but word limit is set to be quite low, usually 300–400 words (if not less).

·         Creating tutorials is a whole separate deal because here you would have to create or curate images/videos. That takes up the rate you can charge, like written content can be ₹1-2 per word and newly created images and videos are ₹5-20 per second. Curated content can't be charged and has to be explicitly credited to its original sources.

·         Irrespective of the destination (website, book, magazine, etc), I've noticed good writers are paid ₹1 per word, and if your employer is really happy with your work, you get bumped up to ₹2 per word.

·         The standard rate for the content writing in India inclusive of the website content, blog writing, scoops and even press releases is INR 2 / word.

·         There are websites and content creators which lure the early starters with the easy offers of lesser amount but i would strongly recommend to not accept the project until it is INR 2 per word.

·         However, the content writing is also done project wise for which the negotiations take place according to the quotations made by the writer and the company.

·         Being working as a freelance content writer from the past 3 years, i believe there is a lot of exploitation in the name of “experience” but as long as you give quality writing with good format the freelance rate of INR 2 per word is worth it!

·         On many of the freelancing sites, such as Upwork or Freelancer, the ability to create content at 1 Rupees per word will make your options very broad.

·         That is not to say that you couldn't charge more, or that some clients won't pay less.. I have seen many projects posted at rates that would convert to less than 1 rupees per word. When I began, my (converted from US dollar) rate was less than 1 rupees per word even though I had journalism experience.

·         You also have to keep in mind that sites such as Upwork and Freelancer charge fees. So that average 1 Rupees per word (2 if your lucky) has dropped a bit.

·         Again, I am an American freelancer, so I have converted the numbers - but I have been bidding on web content work for 5 years now, many times alongside Indian applicants. On those sites, the vast majority of projects filled by Indian content writers are under or at 1 Rupees per word.7

·         There is no such thing as standard rates for writing content. Some prefer to pay word-wise while some prefer to pay for the content as a whole. But approximately, for an article of 500 words, you can get Rs 150. The lowest rate that is being paid for per-word basis is Rs 0.1

·         This can definitely increase as you move ahead in your career but initially it is surely difficult to make really good money.

·

·         If you are writing as a freelance writer, then it solely depends on you. I used to charge and still does charge 80p or 90p per word.

·         However, in case its a full-time job then it totally depends on your skill-set and experience.

·         In case of tutorials, I am not the right person to guide you since I am still a learner on this part. I haven’t yet tried my hands on creating tutorial for my blog.

·         Be Wise and then RISE.
